It is my privilege to undertake the role of President of Oxford University Boat Club for the 157th Boat Race. The responsibility of leading Oxford’s campaign against Cambridge this season is one I take incredibly seriously, and I wish to take the club forward in light of last year’s results. The memory of defeat will be at the forefront of the squad’s mentality - it is evident that we must be at our absolute best to triumph in this unique sporting contest.
To row in the Boat Race is undoubtedly an immense challenge for both the athletes and the many individuals that do not receive media coverage. At Oxford we are extremely fortunate to have the excellent team of Sean Bowden and Andy Nelder coaching the Blue Boat and Isis crews respectively, and it will be a great pleasure to work with both of them again this year.
I welcome all our new athletes at Oxford this year, and encourage any prospective rowers and students to contact us at OUBC. Personally, being part of the club has been the most memorable experience of my university career - it is an opportunity well worth the sacrifices made.
I eagerly await this year’s race, and relish the prospect of fully engaging in the training process again.
