Development Squad

OUBC runs a Development Squad from April to July each year to provide coaching, training and racing experience for aspiring rowers and coxswains. Although the OUBC squad often includes experienced internationals, the squads also include a number of rowers and coxswains who learned to row while at university and have just one or two years' experience with the Development Squad.

The Development Squad is available to any full-time matriculated Oxford University student and is designed to support your preparation for trialling for the OUBC squad which takes place from early September. It is completely free and provides prospective OUBC rowers with a training programme, OUBC boats and coaching, access to the OUBC gym, physiological testing and the opportunity to race in summer regattas such as Henley Women's Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.

If you are new to Oxford University and are interested in taking up rowing, we recommend that you first get involved with your college boat club to gain at least a year's experience in your college first eight before considering trialling with us. We aim to maintain a fourth eight during the Boat Race season for each of the men's and women's squads to support the Blue Boat, Reserve and Lightweight eights.
